Manhood and Sexual Immorality
This generation needs to have access to information that has been lost throughout history. The issue of the will of God, the context of living life as God has called man to live, is revealed in the Bible. If the Bible is not revealing the heart of God and the purpose of man, then we become wayward and disconnected and distanced from flourishing, being fruitful, and filling the earth with glory. One of the major components that diminishes manhood involves the aspect of sexual intimacy. God wants man to know the parameters of blessing, but secular culture dumbs us down. The streams of the passions of flesh and carnality color some of the descriptions of man’s tendencies and disposition. But here, Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:3…he says: this is the will of God; your sanctification. So he doesn’t beat around the bush. And there are promiscuous societies in the times of Paul. The cities of Corinth, Thessalonica, and Colossae had all been devastated and passed-through with cultures of unbridled sexual passion. And here he boldly proclaims what this means. What is the will of God? Your sanctification? How is it defined? He says that you should abstain from everything sexually immoral; things that are outside the lines of sexual morality. Someone once asked me “what is morality?” and I answered that it was the line between right and wrong. When that is lost, then everything is fifty shades of gray and you don’t know what to do or how to do it. And so Paul directly says “abstain…stop from conducting yourselves with sexual immorality.” What does that mean again? And now we’ll go to verse four; “that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification” in an expression of honor when you’re dealing with intimacy. Those two terms are the guidelines and the parameters of blessing. Sanctification and honor so that you might prosper, be fruitful, and have an expression of a reward instead of penalty. And so a lot of people fall into “I’m going to do whatever I want, I’m going to listen to whoever I want, I don’t have to listen to the word of God, to the man of God, to the church, to religion.” No my friend! This is God’s earth. This is God’s reality. And when He says “this is My will; that each of you should walk in sanctification and honor”…not in the passions of lust, not unbridled indiscretion where you come and go as you please. He says “not in the passions of the lust, like those who do not know God.” in other words, like those that do not have a relationship with God, that come and go as they please and establish their own lines of yes and no, right or wrong according to their pleasure. “Not like those that do not know God, that no one should take advantage or defraud his neighbor in this manner because the Lord…(not the church, not the pastor, not religion)…the Lord is the avenger of all those who act as such.” So we forewarn and testify that God did not call us to something unclean, but to something holy. Whoever rejects this does not reject man, but God who’s given us his Holy Spirit. So these are the parameters, and we remain involved in these matters because these are the areas that most affect the character of man’s success, prosperity, and flourishing. Make these your meditation also and discover they are precious principles that bring treasure instead of turning our relationships into trash. God bless you.
